Holly Woods is going to hell in a handbasket—but this time, Satanists aren’t to blame. Halloween is.

Nonna doesn’t understand why there are skeletons and demons everywhere. Mom is threatening to stitch a devil into Nonna’s pillowcase if she doesn’t shut up. Bek is bumbling over a date with Jason, the handsome FBI agent who conveniently got himself relocated to Austin, and I… Well. I’m considering running away to a town without the crazies.

Nothing new here.

Everything is going smoothly—too smoothly—and I can’t shake the feeling that something is about to happen. Drake insists I’m being paranoid… But when a body turns up at the Holly Woods Halloween party, we have a whole lot more than a murderer to worry about.

Because the prime suspect is his mom.

And it’s my job to prove she’s innocent.

REVIEW:

4 stars

This series is based on a Private investigator who works in the small town of Holly Woods in Texas.    The series follows the same main character Noelle and her significant other Police detective Drake Nash.  Noelle is a private investigator who constantly gets herself into trouble in her investigations.   In this particular instalment it’s Halloween and someone is murdered at a halloween party.  Just so happens that Drake’s mum was the last person to be seen to have spoken to the person before they were murdered and therefore is the prime suspect.  Drake’s mum then hires Noelle to try and prove that she did not commit the murder.

In my opinion this book was a bit of a slow burner and as I was reading I was sitting there thinking where is this book going?   I always think I have the Murderer and Whodunnit sussed and worked out and as always Emma has a habit of turning the screws and completely surprises me!

There is a good cast of secondary characters who are an absolute hoot and add so much to the story.   I especially love the bond and the banter between Noelle and her family and in my opinion makes this series what it is, add the murders and mystery element and you have a laugh out loud, steamy romantic suspense series.  The books can be read as stand alone’s but Noelle’s and Drakes relationship develops over the course of the series so it is useful to start from the beginning.

About the Author:

By day, New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Adult author Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to a terrible two year old and growing bump, due September 2013. By night, she drops the cape, pours a glass of juice and writes books.
She likes to write about magic, kisses and whatever else she can fit into the story. Sarcastic, witty characters are a must. As are hot guys. Emma is currently working too many books to even count - including Playing for Keeps, the companion book to the New York Times and USA Today bestselling novel, The Love Game. She likes to be busy - unless busy involves doing the dishes, but that seems to when all the ideas come to life.
