Ker Dukey is a fantastic British author who has created this series, which I would describe as a dark psychological thriller.  
 
The series begins with Empathy, introducing brothers Blake and Ryan, who come from a destructive childhood, and Melody, the female lead. Things are never what they seem in this series, I begin thinking that Blake was the dangerous character, however, as the story develops, Melody becomes an obsession for both Ryan and Blake, with both men taking dangerous risks, and with that, Ryan’s darker character becomes apparent.  The final scenes can only be described as disturbing, shocking and brilliant and the epilogue is fantastic.
 
Desolate continues the story, set some years later, with Ryan about to be released from a mental institution.  Whilst his obsession with Melody continues, he begins to turn his focus and obsession to Cereus, Blake and Melody’s daughter.  Ryan continues his dangerous behaviours, and you will find yourself becoming fascinated with the lengths he will go to achieve his goal. This is magnified when Ryan, discovers a kindred sprit in Cereus, and the thrilling ride continues as you discover who will win her attention – Ryan, or her parents as they attempt to save Cereus from her uncle.  
 
In Vacant, you find Ryan-obsessed Cereus, unable to fit into her normal college life, craving the release Ryan and his support gives her.  Her parents are terrified that Ryan will find her again and what that will mean for her future, but are Ryan and Cereus destined to be together no matter what?
 
Deadly continues the story again where you see how Cereus develops dangerous behaviour, and she finds that she enjoys the release she gets from taking lives.  What is interesting though is that whilst she craves the support Ryan gives her, Cereus is becoming obsessive and very deadly herself, and no one is safe!
 
What I found interesting, and have loved throughout this series is things are not always what they seem, and even as you start to grasp what Ryan, and Cereus are truly capable of, you can’t quite hate either of them!!  This series is totally worth reading, and I highly recommend taking a trip into the lives of these characters.  The dark story found me questioning what is right and charismatic Ryan found himself an ally in me, no matter what he did!
